Treating animal disability since 2014 with the Krishna Limb innovated by Dr Tapesh Mathur
The Krishna Limb is India’s first self-designed, low-cost, lightweight, and custom-fabricated prosthetic limb engineered specifically for animals. We provide dignified, painless, and practical mobility solution directly to the doorsteps of disabled animals, particularly large livestock/Cows that cannot be easily transported to clinical centers.
The process begins with a detailed clinical assessment of the animal to ensure proper surgical healing and readiness. Next, exact measurements and socket impressions are taken via guided digital tools. Dr. Mathur then handcrafts and customizes the prosthetic in his laboratory, tailoring it to the specific weight, anatomical alignment, and biomechanics of the animal—whether it is a cow, bull, horse, camel, dog, goat, rabbit or bird.
Finally, the limb is fitted, followed by gait training and owner orientation. What makes this innovation distinct is its affordability, field durability, and holistic approach. While international animal prosthetics are prohibitively expensive and largely geared toward household pets, the Krishna Limb is engineered for heavy, working livestock operating in rough rural terrains.
Furthermore, Dr. Mathur provides these services completely free of cost to poor farmers and underprivileged owners. He combines prosthetic fitting with clinical guidance, advising field veterinarians on proper amputation techniques and stump management to ensure long-term comfort and successful rehabilitation.
We are also raising awareness about treating and clinically managing animals injured in accidents. We provide our services after assessing the case, and offer clinical guidance about care and management of injured animals to animal owners, animal centres and the clinical fraternity — both before and after amputation.
More than this, we seek to see this world showing more empathy toward animals who suffer the pain of being left lame. We measure our success in the quality of life for each animal, and educate everyone about prevention of injury, timely treatment, and amputation as a last choice. Krishna, the calf, was our guiding soul who inspired us to undertake this mission — and we wish to continue with the support of all who believe humans are not the rulers of the planet, but its saviours and servants.
